The challenge

Nine books, two spin-offs, a wiki maintained by fans and a website that was a single page with a buy button. Serious readers had nowhere official to go, and the mailing list had stalled at four thousand.

The strategy

How we approached it.

01

Treat the backlist as architecture

Every book, novella and short became an addressable page with reading-order guidance, so a new reader could find the entry point in one click.

02

Give the world a room

Maps, houses and timelines rendered as a browsable archive — the thing fans were building themselves, made official and beautiful.

03

Make the list worth joining

A chapter-length exclusive replaced the generic signup. Conversion moved from under one percent to nine.

In the author's words

It is the only piece of marketing I have ever been proud to link to. It looks like the inside of the books.
